Scheduled jobs
Aivie does some of its work on a schedule. Three jobs run inside your site through Umbraco.Community.JobsJobsJobs, and one background service renews the licence. All times are UTC. None of them needs an extra user or key.
The jobs
| Job | Schedule (UTC) | What it does | Key |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly ideas | 0 2 1 * *, the first of the month at 02:00 | Generates the ideas for the month and gives them publication dates. Can be switched off with Aivie:Ideas:JobEnabled, for example on a staging copy. See Background jobs. | Aivie:Ideas:CronExpression |
| Datasource crawl | 0 2 * * *, every night at 02:00 | Crawls all your datasources one by one. | Aivie:Competitors:CronExpression |
| AI connection check | 15 6 * * *, every day at 06:15 | Makes a short test call to the AI connection, so that the status on the subscription screen stays current. | Aivie:AiStatus:CronExpression |
| Licence renewal | every 24 hours, with up to an hour of random spread | Asks the licence server for a fresh licence key. | Aivie:License:RefreshHours |
Each idea the monthly job makes counts against the ideas allowance of your package. See Package tiers.
On a site with more than one server, the crawl and the connection check run on the scheduling server only. The monthly ideas job runs on every server role, so on a site with more than one server it is not limited to the scheduling server.
When the licence blocks a job
The three jobs check the licence before they start. When the licence does not allow Aivie to create things, for example because it is expired or missing, the job does nothing and writes a warning to the log with the licence status. The next run tries again. Licence renewal is not held back by this check. See Licence statuses.
Changing a schedule
The schedule of the monthly ideas job and of the datasource crawl can be changed on the Settings tab of Setup, which only members of Aivie-admin can open. The groups Idea generator and Datasources show the schedule of their job as one sentence, with a Change button. The dialog When does this job run? is described under Schedule on the Idea generator page.
You can also set a schedule in your configuration, with the key in the last column of the table above. The key holds a standard cron expression of five fields, for example 30 3 * * 1 for every Monday at 03:30. The keys and their defaults are in the configuration keys.
- An empty key gives the default schedule.
- An expression that is not valid is ignored. The job runs on the default schedule and Aivie writes a warning to the log.
- When the Settings tab has set a frequency other than
Cronfor the ideas job or the crawl, the schedule comes from that frequency, andCronExpressionis not used.
The AI connection check and the licence renewal have no screen. Set them in your configuration. The licence renewal takes a number of hours in Aivie:License:RefreshHours instead of a cron expression.
