Licence statuses
The licence screen and the banner in the Aivie section show one of the statuses below, with a message that explains it. Can create says whether Aivie lets you create and change things. When it says no, Aivie is read-only. A local host without a key gets the trial. On a public domain, no status lets a site work without a licence. How to enter a key and what the trial is, is on Licence and trial.
Status table
| Status | Can create | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Valid | Yes | The licence is in order and covers this host name. |
| Expiring soon | Yes | The licence is valid, but it ends within the warning period before its expiry date. The period is set in the key and is 14 days by default. The notice becomes more urgent in the last 7 days and in the last 3 days. |
| Not renewed | Yes | The licence server reports that the licence was not renewed. Aivie keeps working until the expiry date of the key. After that the status becomes Expired. |
| Trial | Yes | There is no key, the site runs on a local host and the 14 days have not passed. Up to five ideas can be made. |
| No licence | No | There is no key and there is no trial. This is the case on a public domain without a key, after the trial has ended, or when the stored start of the trial lies in the future because the clock or the data is wrong. |
| Expired | No | The expiry date of the key has passed. The usual cause is that the licence was not renewed in time. |
| Revoked | No | ipsis withdrew the licence. This is the only status that gives no warning in advance. |
| Different domain | No | The key is valid, but not for the host name you use. The message names the licensed domains. Ask the holder of the licence to add your domain. |
| Invalid | No | The text is not a valid Aivie licence key. It is incomplete or was copied wrongly, it was issued for another product, or its signature is wrong. |
| Cannot be read | No | Aivie cannot read its stored licence at the moment, because the database does not return the licence row, or because the site runs on Umbraco earlier than 17.6.0 (fix: upgrade Umbraco, see the requirements). Looking around still works. Often it is enough to try again after a while, because Aivie checks again after five minutes. |
Messages
Next to the status, Aivie shows a message in the language of your backoffice. The same message appears in the chat and with a refused change, so you always see why. Where the message names a person to contact, it uses the name of the licence holder, or your supplier when the licence has none.
| Status | Message |
|---|---|
| Valid | Licence valid until date. |
| Expiring soon | The licence expires in number days, on date. After that you can no longer save or generate anything in Aivie and the automatic tasks stop. Contact holder. With one day left, the message says 1 day instead of days; the rest is the same. |
| Not renewed | The licence has not been renewed and expires on date. Contact holder. |
| Trial | Trial period: number days left. From date you can no longer save or generate anything. With one day left, the message says 1 day left instead of days left; the rest is the same. |
| No licence | One of these, depending on the cause: No licence key has been entered yet., A trial period only applies to a local development environment. Enter a licence key to use Aivie on this domain., The start date of the trial period is in the future, so the system clock or the stored data is wrong. Enter a licence key to use Aivie again. or, after the trial, Your fourteen-day trial period is over. Everything you have already made stays where it is; with a licence you carry on. |
| Expired | The licence expired on date. When the licence server reported that the licence was not renewed: The licence has not been renewed. Contact holder. |
| Different domain | This licence applies to licensed domains and not to your host name. Ask holder to add this domain. |
| Revoked | This licence has been revoked. Contact your supplier. |
| Invalid | The licence key is not valid. Check that it was copied completely, or ask your supplier for a new one. For a key of another product: This key was issued for product and not for product. |
| Cannot be read | Aivie cannot read its licence details at the moment. While that lasts, Aivie will not create or change anything; looking at what is there still works, and everything already on the site stays as it is. Often this is a matter of trying again in a little while. If it keeps happening, your administrator can check whether the database returns the licence row. |
When Aivie has not been able to reach the licence server, a second line follows the message: Note: there has been no contact with the licence server yet, so renewing has not succeeded yet., or Note: the licence server has not been reached for number days, so a renewal cannot come through. See Lease and renewal below.
Read-only behaviour
When Can create is no, Aivie stays open for looking and refuses everything that makes or changes something:
- You can open every screen and read your pages, ideas, keywords and settings.
- Every request that changes something is refused, with the same message as the banner. That includes saving settings, creating ideas, generating images and running the setup wizard.
- Entering a licence key, asking Aivie to validate the key again and requesting a licence stay open, so that you can always solve the problem.
- The chat does not answer, and shows the licence message instead.
- The tools of the chat assistant that write things do not work.
- The background jobs do nothing and write a warning to the log. See Scheduled jobs.
- Everything you made earlier stays where it is.
Lease and renewal
A licence key is a lease of 35 days. While the licence is paid, Aivie asks the licence server for a fresh key every 24 hours, so you enter the key once and never again. The key then always has a long way to run.
The lease lapses when the renewal cannot happen for 35 days. The usual causes are an Aivie:BaseUrl that points to localhost on a live site, a licence server that cannot be reached, or a licence that was not paid. The status then becomes Expired. Fix the cause and press Validate on the licence screen. The interval between renewals is a setting, see configuration keys.
