Reviewing before publishing
Aivie does not wait for your approval. Every page it writes gets a publication date, and the page goes live on that day. Your chance to review is therefore the time between the run and that date. This page explains how that time works and what to look at.
When pages go live
Aivie spreads the publication dates of a run over what is left of the month. The first date is always today, so the first page of a run is published at once, and several pages are published on the same day when a run makes more ideas than there are days left. The other pages stay drafts in the content tree with a publication date, and Umbraco publishes them on their day at the time set by Publication time (UTC).
We recommend assuming that a page can be live as soon as the run has finished, and reviewing the pages that are published at once first.
New pages are kept out of your navigation: when the page type has the property that hides a page from the menu, Aivie sets it, and it also sets the property for the sitemap. A published idea is therefore findable but not in your menu. When a page has passed your review and belongs in the menu, switch that property off yourself. See Page building.
Use the planner as your worklist
Open the Planner after each run. The pages that are waiting for their day have the status Approved, and the pages that have gone live have the status Published / Live.
- Click a scheduled page and choose Edit to open it in the content editor. Check it and change what you need.
- If the page is not ready, drag it to a later day in the calendar, or choose Don't publish. That removes the publication date. The page stays in the content tree as a draft, and you can set a new date in the content editor.
- Work through the pages in date order, so the next ones to go live are reviewed first.
In Umbraco, a scheduled page is published as it is saved when its day comes, so the changes you saved before then go live with it. A page that is already published cannot be moved in the planner. See Planner.
What to check
Aivie is told not to invent facts, figures, prices or customer names, and it only writes what it can find in your details and in the briefing. Even so, we recommend checking:
- Facts. Every number, claim, name and promise, also in the title and in any SEO fields. Anything specific that is not in your company details or datasources deserves a second look.
- Links and buttons. Aivie only links to pages that exist on your site and removes other links, so check that each destination fits the text around it and that a button leads where a reader expects.
- Images. They come from the Aivie media folder, or are generated when nothing fits and image generation is on. Check that the image fits the text and that its description is right.
- Tone. Read the page against your tone of voice. A page that does not sound like you is a sign that the input needs work, see Writing good company and brand input.
Be critical with the first pages of a new group. What you correct there tells you what to change in the group, its example pages or the Layer 2 document. See Building good idea groups.
Stop a page that is already live
A page that has been published is no longer in the planner's scheduled list, and Don't publish is no longer there. To take it off your site, unpublish it in the content tree. Its idea stays open, because publishing does not close it.
Remove an idea for good
On the Ideas tab, the lock icon only closes the idea, to tidy the list. The page does not change. The bin icon deletes the page itself from Umbraco, with its subpages, and not to the recycle bin. If it was published it disappears from your site, and you cannot undo it.
We recommend that you move a page you may still want to the recycle bin in the content tree instead. The idea then closes by itself. See Ideas and idea groups.
