Recommended setup order

Aivie has many settings, and a few of them depend on each other. We recommend working through the steps below in this order. Each step says why it comes where it does and links to the page with the details.

The checklist

  1. Pin Data Protection. Do this before you enter any key, so that encrypted values such as an API key stay readable when the site moves to another server or account. See Pin Data Protection.
  2. Enter your licence key. On a public domain Aivie is read-only without a licence, and the wizard's Set up Aivie button is refused like every other change. On your own machine the trial lets you start without a key, but enter the key before you go live. See Entering a key.
  3. Run the setup wizard: apply, restart, apply again. Pick the homepage and the package, enter the OpenAI key and the public URL of the site, and press Set up Aivie. Some settings are only read at startup, and the image profile is only created after a restart, so you apply twice. Then test the AI connection. See Apply, restart, apply again.
  4. Fill in Company and brand. Until you have saved the general settings once, Aivie gives its agents placeholder example details instead of yours. See Company and brand and Writing good company and brand input.
  5. Add your datasources. Idea groups can then use them as background for the topics they cover, and the first crawl of a large site takes a few minutes. See Datasources.
  6. Link the Layer 2 documents to your page types. After installation no document is linked to a page type and all of them are a fallback, so every idea gets all five, with different target lengths side by side. See Link Layer 2 to your page types.
  7. Choose the content types for idea groups. Until you do, Which content type? stays empty and a group cannot generate pages. See Choose the page types for idea groups.
  8. Add keywords, and connect Search Console and DataForSeo. Idea groups write about the keywords on your list. The two connections are optional: they add positions, impressions and search volumes. After you connect them, press Run task on the Keywords screen to fetch the figures. See Keywords, Search Console and DataForSeo and Keywords.
  9. Create your first idea group with example pages. Try the group with the magnifier button first, then run it. See Building good idea groups and Your first ideas.
  10. Look through the planner. Pages get a publication date, and the first ones go live at once. See Reviewing before publishing and Planner.

Your first month

After the checklist, Aivie runs by itself once a month. Use Monthly routine to keep up with it. If you also run a staging or test copy of the site, read Staging and production before you clone the database.
