Fewer ideas than expected
A run is one pass of the idea generator, started by the monthly job or by Auto generate. It divides the monthly ideas allowance of your package over your active idea groups and makes the ideas in rounds. This page explains why a run can make fewer ideas than planned, and why pages can be shorter than you expected. How a run divides the ideas is under How much a run makes.
The reasons are in the Umbraco log. A site that only logs warnings and errors shows the lines below, because they are warnings.
An idea group gets 0 ideas
The card of the group shows Ideas this month: 0, and the log has the warning Cluster '{name}' ({id}) does not participate in this run: followed by the reason. In the preview of the group, the same reason is the error message.
Cause
A group only takes part when it can actually run. A group is left out when:
- It has no content type. The preview says Cluster 'name' has no document type. Choose one on the cluster.
- Its content type no longer exists. The preview says The document type of this cluster no longer exists (key key). Choose another one on the cluster.
- Its parent page no longer exists: The page set for cluster 'name' no longer exists. Choose a new target page for this cluster.
- It has no parent page and no default is set: Cluster 'name' has no target page and no default is set. Choose one on the cluster, or fill in setting.
- It is not active this month. A group takes part only in the months between its start date and its end date.
A group that is left out gets no share, and its share goes to the other groups. In the log, the first two reasons are written in Dutch at the moment.
Fix
- Open the group under Ideas → Clusters and choose the Which content type? and, if you do not use the default, Which page should the ideas go under?. See Ideas and idea groups.
- If the list Which content type? is empty, choose the page types that groups can use in the setting Doctypes that can serve as an idea group. See Choose the page types for idea groups.
- For a group without a parent page, set Default parent page in the group Page structure. See Page building.
- Check the start date and end date of the group.
A run makes fewer ideas than planned
The log has the warning AutoGenerate did not reach the monthly count: followed by the number of ideas made against the number planned, the rounds, and the ideas made per group.
Cause
Ideas fell away along the way. Before this line, the log shows why:
Idea '{title}' for cluster '{name}' rejected:followed by the points on which the idea failed. An idea is rejected when it still fails the checks after the repair rounds, for example a required field that stays empty.Cluster '{name}' ({id}) failed:followed by the error, when a whole group stopped with an error.
When a group makes fewer ideas than its share, the rest goes to the other groups in a next round. A group that made nothing in a round, or failed, no longer takes part in that run. The run ends when a round makes nothing at all. So a run falls short when the remaining groups cannot absorb the shortage.
Fix
Read the lines before the warning and deal with the reason they give:
- Many rejected ideas on the same point: see the next problem.
- A group that failed: fix what the error says. Often this is the parent page or the content type, as above.
- Few groups to absorb the shortage: add idea groups, or press Auto generate again. A new run continues with what is left of the allowance.
The result of the agent stays invalid
The log has the warning Result of agent '{alias}' remained invalid after {n} attempt(s). Best attempt had these points: followed by a list. Or Agent '{alias}' returned no usable result.
Cause
The ideas agent, or the agent that proposes topics, returned an answer that did not pass the checks of Aivie, and it did not pass in the repair rounds either. The list names what was wrong. Aivie writes these points in Dutch at the moment, because they go back to the agent as complaints. A second log line at the Information level shows the last output of the agent.
Fix
- Read the points. They tell you which block, field or rule was the problem.
- Raise Repair rounds in the group Idea generator by one. Each extra round is an extra AI call. See How much a run makes.
- Check the agent under AI → Agents and the profile it uses. A model that is too small for the page structure fails more often. Use the preview, the magnifier on the card of the idea group, to see what one idea looks like. See Preview a group.
The allowance for the month is used up
You have no ideas left this month. appears when you press Auto generate, or the log has IdeaGeneratorJob did not run: no ideas left this month. During a run the log can say The monthly allowance ran out during cluster.
Cause
Each idea uses one of the ideas that your package includes per month. A run never makes more than what is left, and it stops when the allowance is used up. A trial has five ideas in total, and says so with Your five trial ideas have been made. A low value in Maximum number of ideas per run caps the run below the allowance, and Groups per run limits how many groups take part.
Fix
See Limits reached. If Maximum number of ideas per run holds a test value, empty it.
Pages are shorter than expected
The ideas have been made, but the pages are shorter or thinner than you wanted.
Cause
- The length comes from Layer 2. The ideas agent takes the target length from the Layer 2 instructions for the kind of page. The example pages show how a page is built, but not how long it is. See Titles and length.
- No Layer 2 document is linked to the page type. Aivie then gives the agent all five Layer 2 documents, with different target lengths side by side, and the agent has to choose between them. See Link Layer 2 to your page types.
- Layer 2 names no length. The agent then writes about 600 words.
- The Layer 2 document says to write shorter. The Layer 2 documents for Blogs & News, Cases and Recruitment tell the agent to write shorter when there is little information, and not to pad the text with general statements. A group with thin source data therefore stays below the target length for those kinds of page. The Default and SEO landing page documents do not say this.
- There is little to build on. The agent is told not to invent facts, figures, prices or customer names. When your company details, services, keywords and datasources say little about the subject, the page stays short. Until you have saved the general settings once, Aivie passes placeholder details instead of yours. See Company and brand.
- The minimum is a soft rule. Minimum number of words sends a too short idea back for repair, but an idea that is still too short after the last round is kept.
Fix
- Link each Layer 2 document to the page types it is written for, under AI → Contexts → Aivie Laag 2, and keep Use as fallback on for one document only.
- Put the length you want in the Layer 2 document of that page type.
- Fill in the Company tab and the services, goals and USPs under General, and add datasources that cover the subject.
- Check the preview of the group, which shows the idea with the example it used.
