Missing screens
Aivie leaves out the screens you may not use or cannot use yet, instead of showing an error. If a screen from The Aivie section is not in your sidebar, find it below. Who sees what is explained in Roles and access.
The Aivie section is not in the section bar
Cause
Your user group has no access to the section Aivie - Content. Aivie gives access to the groups Aivie-admin and Aivie, and, on the first start, once to the Umbraco Administrators group if no group had access yet. A group you made yourself needs the section ticked. After a change, the backoffice has to be reloaded.
Fix
Add the user to the group Aivie or Aivie-admin. For a group of your own, open the group under Users → User Groups and tick the Aivie section under Sections. Then reload the backoffice or sign in again. See Give someone access.
Setup and Licence are not in the sidebar
You are in the section, and you see Keywords, Ideas and General, but not Setup or Licence. The tab Settings is missing as well.
Cause
These screens are for members of the group Aivie-admin only. Being an Umbraco administrator is not enough. Administrators were added to the group once, when Aivie first started. Someone who became an administrator later is not a member.
Fix
Add the user to the group Aivie-admin under Users, and reload the backoffice. The server refuses these screens for everyone outside the group, so hiding them is not the only protection.
Packages is not in the sidebar
Cause
The screen Packages exists only on a site with a partner licence, and only for members of Aivie-admin. On a site with an ordinary licence the menu item is not there at all.
Fix
Check that you are a member of Aivie-admin. If you are, the site does not have a partner licence. Packages are explained under Packages (partners). Customers see the package of their site on the Subscription screen.
Subscription is not in the sidebar
Cause
The screen Subscription is only shown when the site has a running subscription, or runs a trial. It is not there when:
- The setup wizard has not been run yet, or was run without choosing a package, so there is no subscription.
- The site has a partner licence and the partner has not assigned a package to the site. Such a site has no limits and no subscription.
Fix
Run the setup wizard and choose a package in the field Subscription. On a partner site, assign a package under Assigning. The screen appears when the status is read again, which takes at most a minute.
The list of previous conversations is empty
Next to the title of the chat you press Previous conversations and see You have no saved conversations yet.
Cause
Chat history is switched off. It is off by default, and without it nothing is saved.
Fix
Switch on Keep chat history, in the group Chat on the Settings tab of Setup. See Chat history. Conversations are saved from then on, not for the past.
The Aivie chat button is not there
Cause
Without access to the Aivie section there is no chat at all: neither the floating button nor the button in the header is shown. The Aivie chat button is also hidden when the licence does not allow Aivie to create anything, or when no chat assistant is active on the Aivie chat. The last is the case before the setup wizard has been run. With a licence that does not allow creating, the chat would refuse to answer, and the banner at the top of every Aivie screen says why.
Fix
Check first that your user group has access to the section (see the first entry on this page). Look at the banner, and follow Licence messages. If there is no licence problem, run the setup wizard, which creates the chat assistant. See Open the chat.
The Generate with AI button is not there
In the media picker you see the picker, but not the box Generate an image with OpenAI with the button Generate with AI.
Cause
The box is only shown to users whose user group has access to the Aivie section. Without that access the button is left out, because the server would refuse it. The other possible cause is that the field does not use the property editor OpenAI Media Picker at all.
Fix
Check that your user group has access to the Aivie section, as described under the first entry on this page. Then reload the backoffice. If the group has access and the box is still missing, check that the data type of the field uses OpenAI Media Picker. See Add the picker to a field.
If you do see the button and pressing it gives You don't have permission for this media folder. Ask an administrator for access., the section is not the problem. See Generate images.
The assistant says it is not allowed to do something
You ask the chat assistant to do something, such as publishing a page, moving a page or adding an image, and it answers that you are not allowed to. Nothing has changed.
Cause
The tools of Aivie in the chat work with your own rights in Umbraco, and one of them is missing. It can be the section Content or Media, a start node that does not cover the page or the media folder, a permission on that page (reading, creating, editing, publishing, deleting, moving, copying or reordering), or access to the language of the page. For moving and copying the rights on the destination count as well, and for publishing a page with its subpages the right on every subpage. The assistant is told to explain that you lack this permission in Umbraco, and not to try again or find a way around it. The text of its answer differs each time.
Fix
An administrator adjusts the rights in Umbraco. Under Users → User Groups, check the sections, the permissions and the languages of the group of the person. Under Users, check the start nodes of the user. The change applies to the chat from then on. If you are not sure which right is missing, the Umbraco log shows every refusal as an information line that starts with Chat tool refused: user, followed by the action that was asked for. See The assistant follows your Umbraco rights.
